Brooklyn Generation operates with a unique expanded year model, providing 200 days of instruction for students without increasing the work year for teachers.  Within the 200 days, students have Foundation and Studio courses for the majority of their days.  Starting in ninth grade, twice a year, for a month at a time, they work with the Intensives staff (see "Academics" for more about the Intensives).  Grade level teachers have time to work collaboratively, reflect and prepare for the next round of Foundation and Studio courses.

For example, for the 2013-14 school year, as part of the expanded year:

Monday, August 12, 2013.  Summer Institute.  Administrators and teachers have a week to address new mandates and plan for the coming year.
Monday, August 19, 2013.  School begins for 9th and 10th grade students.
Monday, September 9, 2013.  School begins for 11th and 12th grade students

As part of our student recruitment efforts, we invite families and students to either Open Houses in the evenings, or School Visits while classes are in session.

Open Houses and Site Visits.  Please call Parent Coordinator, Robin Simmons, at 718 968 4200.
