Student Spotlight

Our students Dream bigger, Work harder, and Care more.

A special congratulations to students who have completed their college courses - even while they're still in high school!  Students were enrolled in courses either at Brooklyn College or Mercy College and took courses including  Accounting, Philosophy of Education, and Sociology.  Most earned an "A" or "B+".

These students no longer need to imagine themselves as college students; they've already proven themselves as college students!

“You can’t dream unless you know what the possibilities are.”  - Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor

Christian Smith, Brooklyn Generation Class of 2013  “I really liked this school because what I researched during my intensive was the health sciences program.  Now, the health sciences program, it helps me branch out into different fields.  So I can do pre-med.  I can do nursing.  I can do physical therapy...I believe getting this kind of exposure will help me even more.”

Raysa Sosa, Senior,  Brooklyn Generation Class of 2013  I wanted to be an actress. So I picked a theater arts Intensive.  But I was bad at it.  Then I learned that I can’t cook.  Then I took an intensive with Ms. Hill, Careers in Medicine.  I’ve been part of the Arthur Ashe Institute’s Science Academy.  Now I am going to SUNY Geneseo where I’ll major in biology.”

Austin Vega,  Brooklyn Generation Class of 2014  “Because I arrived in school late, teachers helped me catch up with all the other students.  I liked how helpful they were.  They freely let me stay for lunch and after-school if I had to.  I think that’s the biggest impact. Honestly, it’s definitely more helpful than my previous schools.”

Lydia Colon Bomani, Principal, Brooklyn Generation (since 2011)  “What we provide here right now is 200 days of instruction, which is not just more time to do more of the same, but it’s more time to do things differently.  Within those 200 days we’re able to incorporate some real college and career readiness…the 200 day year allows students to have the basics, but also looking at multiple aspects of their chosen Intensive.”
